i have the same problem when i drag it down,
You just need to unlock the background to this for work, After merge ALL the layers go to: Layer > new > background from layer. And then tray again selecting the area and drag it with the patch tool. (you can see that the square is divided in two) be cool, this is what happen when it works.

Nice tut but the patch tool doesnt work for me… I mean Im doing exactly as it says when when I select it anddrag it nothing happens :S anyone knows?? Im using photoshop cs3

I´m using CS5 and i had the same problem , but then i realized that i didnt had all the layers merged, so if you are having any problem try to merge all layers.

I don’t get ‘hold the left mouse and drag down with patch tool’. When I try to drag it down, the selection box is just moving along. Nothing happened.

Interesting tutorial and good special effect. I experimented with it and found that feathering the selection a bit (say, 10 pixels) can result in an interesting 3D effect, especially for very bold display fonts.

Can anyone help me? I am using Photoshop CS 3, and I select the patch tool and basically drag from the start of the arrow to the end of the arrrow, but it just tries to move the box down… and nothing happens . Patch tool is definitely selected and I’m using the left mouse button… if anyone has any ideas, please help?
